I’ve had this one in the back of my head for a while…little mini mailboxes stuffed with valentines! No baking involved here…these are practically ready made!
So what is it made of? Twinkies and Milano Cookies are the main components here…
Additional Supplies needed:
Valentine sprinkles
Fruit rolls
Twinkies
Milano Cookies
Frosting
Candiquik
Popsicle sticks
Freebie printable {download available at the end of this post}
Clear treat bags {for wrapping if handing out as individual treats}
Cookie or lollipop stick {for use while covering with chocolate}
Parchment or wax paper
First, cut your Twinkie in half, shave a little off each side, and chop off the front and back ends…Next…put a little frosting on your cookie stick and insert into your Twinkie…using a spoon or icing spatula…carefully, but quickly cover Twinkie with Candiquik…cover all sides but front and leave on wax paper to harden…{side note: make sure to follow the heating instructions exactly. If you overheat…you will scorch the chocolate}While the cakes are drying…cut the Milano cookies in half..then split them in two..{side note…you will probably break more than a few}…dip the rounded side into the Candiquik…cover with sprinkles…set on paper to dry……dip your cookie stick in chocolate…and dab a dot on the front of the cookie…adhere silver ball {knobs} take a 2 inch section of your fruit roll and double it over…with a knife…cut out a mailbox flag…dip in red sugar crystals…Once all your pieces have dried you can start to assemble the mailbox. First, I attached the flag by dabbing a little of the Candiquik on the back of the flag. Then…I covered the front of the mailbox with frosting and attached the door {Milano cookie}…Last, stuff your mailbox with Valentines…I just did 3…and once again, dip the bottoms of the hearts in some Candiquik to act as the glue.
All that’s left to do is insert a popsicle stick and add the tag. If you are giving these as individual treats, wrap in the treat bag before attaching tag.These little Valentine mailboxes are sure to be a hit with the kids! Enjoy!

January 17, 2013 at 11:03 amYou could use Swiss Cake Rolls/HoHo’s and then you could skip coating the cakes in chocolate. Just an alternative especially if Twinkies can’t be found.

January 17, 2013 at 11:11 amSwiss cake roll was my first thought. However…the chocolate coating flakes off and doesn’t look that great. Like the twinkie…I think HoHo’s are no longer be made.
