Mini Shadow Puppet Theatre
Mini shadow puppet theatre tutorial:
I just wrapped up Savannah’s shadow puppet birthday party and these were the party favors. Mini shadow puppet theatres. These are so fun! Perfect to give as a gift or for a rainy, snowy, sick day at home. They also travel really well!
These are the supplies I used:
a gable box
black cardstock
parchment paper
bamboo skewer {cut into four pieces}
flashlight
twine
printable {link for download at the end of this post}
First, I cut down the length of the two side seams on the back. Next, draw and cut a window. It’s easier to cut from the front. Then, from the inside of the box…secure the parchment paper to the window with tape.
From my window scraps, I created a valance for the front of the box….
Jacks and Savannah wrote a “short” story and cut out their characters from black cardstock…I helped with some of the detailed cuts…Once the puppets are cut, secure a bamboo skewer with tape to the top part of the puppet.
I love that it invokes creativity and imagination…though I believe this may have been an adaptation of the performance at her birthday party…
A piranha ate the mermaid. And Clementine Crab pinched the seahorse. The whale swallowed the crab.
Wow…that’s harsh! PS…I love phonetic spelling…
Jacks wrote and hung up the sign….popcorn was popped…an audience gathered…it’s showtime!
Piranha in action…
Mr. Seahorse makes his debut…he better watch his back…
When the show is over…everything stores easily in the theatre. Fold up the gable box and put away until next time…
I think they got good reviews…enjoy!
