My sister gave Savannah this stroller from The Land of Nod a couple of Christmas’s ago. She loves it! I love it, because it’s wood and not plastic. It has held it’s own against my kids…but, the fabric seat was starting to show signs of wear. So today…I decided to sew a replacement seat. It was super easy…beginning sewing. The most difficult part would be the zig zag appliqué. Lucky for you…I have a two part tutorial on that also.
For this tutorial you will need:
2 fabric rectangles measuring 11.5 in W X 25 in H
Appliqué work { link to pattern and tutorial at the end of this post}
First, iron down your appliqué to the right side of the front fabric. Once secure, pin a piece of medium weight stabilizer to the back. Begin your appliqué stitching. I used a zig zag stitch, but you could use just straight stitch also.
After you have finished the appliqué work, place the two fabric rectangles right sides together and sew down both of the long sides using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Press seams open and flip inside out. Press down seams.
Topstitch down both of the long sides. I used a stitch length of 3.5. Next, baste the top and bottom closed. Starting at the top, fold the fabric down 1/4 inch towards the back and then another 1.5 inches. Stitch all the way across…making sure to backstitch at the beginning and end. Repeat for the bottom.
Finally, remove three of the bolts from one side of the stroller. Slide off old cover and slip on the new one. Replace the bolts. That’s it! Now the baby dolls can ride around in style!
stroller appliqué {this is only for the frame pattern. You can size and print out letter appliqués on a simple word progam}
