Chalk paint baking soda tutorial
Ever suffer from birthday party gift burnout? I definitely do! For a while now, I’ve been wanting to make a “kit” for a birthday gift. With summer just around the corner, I knew I wanted to do some sort of outside activity kit. I stumbled onto this blog…which took regular sidewalk chalk paint and made it fizzy. I was sold!! So, I teamed up with Tracey over @ Little Bitty Design Studio to come up with the, “Fizzy Sidewalk Chalk Paint Kit.”

Chalk paint and baking soda gift idea
I gathered most of my supplies from the dollar store. Dollar Tree is my favorite…because they have legit items and everything is always $1 or under. Like I need to tell you this, but…Target’s dollar section almost always rocks as well.
You’ll need the following:
Basket or container
Shreds for filling basket
Ribbon
Cardstock for printing
Scissors
Quart size paint can {The Home Depot}
Paintbrush {The Home Depot}
Paint can opener {free @ The Home Depot. You have to ask for it}
Popsicle sticks
Muffin tin
Spray bottle
16 oz box of baking soda
Cornstarch
Food Coloring
Printables {link for download at bottom of post}

Baking soda and Chalk Paint fizzy

Fizzy chalk paint is fun
Savannah and I tested it out for fun…and her favorite part…the bubbles. The “fizzy solution” is vinegar. It reacts with the baking soda in the chalk paint mix. Science and fun…wahoo!
For a birthday gift…this literally takes minutes to put together. Just take 1/2 cup of cornstarch and mix thoroughly with 1 – 16 oz box of baking soda {don’t add water if you are giving as a gift.} Pour this mixture into the paint can and replace lid. Fill up the spray bottle with vinegar. Then cut and attach all labels. Make sure to include the instruction printable in the kit. Add the remaining items, muffin tin, popsicle sticks {paint stir sticks}, paintbrush, and food coloring to the basket. If you are doing this for your kids, just simply follow the recipe and instructions from the instruction label. I finished mine off with a ribbon, the kit label, and a paint can opener. My husband took one for a birthday party this weekend…he said the Mom and her friends…were flipping out!! I know I would rather have something like this, than let’s say…a stuffed animal.
Tracey totally rocked it out and designed a kit label, instructions, fizzy solution label, and paint mix label…all freebies! Find them all here .
